민주당 김영환 의원의 자료에 따르면, 파면 직후인 4일부터 퇴거일인 10일까지 사용된 수돗물의 양은 약 228톤이며, 이에 따른 수도요금은 약 75만 원으로 추정된다고 한다. 이는 하루 평균 약 28~39톤에 해당한다.

대통령실은 이에 대해 공식 입장을 밝혔다.
관저에는 많은 경호 인력과 관리 인력이 24시간 상주하고 있으며, 수돗물은 생활용수뿐만 아니라 조경 및 청소 등 다양한 용도로 사용되기 때문에 상당한 양이 소모된다고 설명했다. 또한, 기존에도 일평균 사용량이 25~32톤에 이른다고 덧붙였다.

서울시가 지난해 발표한 자료에 따르면, 2021년 기준 2인 가구의 연간 수도 사용량은 약 159톤이다. 이를 일주일 기준으로 환산하면 약 3톤이 된다.
따라서 윤 전 대통령 측이 사용한 228톤은 약 74~75배에 해당하는 수치로, 상당히 많은 양으로 평가된다.

이러한 상황에 대해 네티즌들은 다양한 반응을 보이고 있다.

After former President Yoon Suk-yeol was dismissed from office, controversy has arisen over the amount of tap water used while he remained at the presidential residence.

According to data released by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Young-hwan, approximately 228 tons of tap water were used from April 4, the day Yoon was removed from office, to April 10, the day before his departure. The corresponding water bill is estimated at around 750,000 KRW (approx. $550 USD). This amounts to a daily average of 28 to 39 tons.

In response, the Presidential Office issued an official statement. It explained that a large number of security personnel and maintenance staff are stationed at the residence 24/7, and that water is used not only for daily living but also for landscaping and cleaning, leading to high consumption. The office also added that the daily average usage prior to dismissal was already between 25 and 32 tons, implying that the recent usage is not significantly different.

Meanwhile, data published by the Seoul Metropolitan Government last year shows that, as of 2021, a two-person household used approximately 159 tons of water annually. When converted to a weekly average, this is just over 3 tons. This means the amount used during the week in question was about 74–75 times higher than a typical household’s usage, raising questions over the scale of consumption.

Online users have reacted with a mix of curiosity and suspicion.
Some commented, “Rather than focusing on the cost, what really matters is what all that water was used for,” and “This feels like something out of a mystery film.” Others speculated, “Maybe something was washed away,” or suggested checking the sewage system, with one remarking, “Large amounts of water are often used when dismantling or removing equipment.”

The controversy seems to go beyond the issue of utility costs, prompting public interest in what activities may have taken place at the residence during that time. Further clarification from the Presidential Office and potential investigation by relevant authorities may be necessary.
