트럼프, 한국 자동차에 25% 관세 부과…미국 수출 1위 품목 타격

 

도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 3일(현지시간) 미국 이외 지역에서 생산된 자동차 및 주요 부품에 25% 관세를 부과하는 조치를 정식 발효했다. 

이번 관세는 한국 자동차에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 한국의 대미 수출 1위 품목인 자동차에 큰 타격을 줄 것으로 예상된다. 

트럼프 대통령이 서명한 행정명령에 따라, 한국에서 생산된 자동차와 주요 부품에 25%의 관세가 부과된다. 이번 조치는 엔진, 변속기, 파워트레인(전동장치), 전기 부품 등 주요 부품을 포함한 자동차 수출에 적용된다. 이로 인해 한국 자동차 제조업체들은 단기적인 가격 상승과 미국 시장에서 경쟁력을 잃을 가능성도 있다. 

한국의 대미 자동차 수출 규모는 지난해 약 347억4천400만 달러(약 51조 원)에 달하며, 이는 전 세계 자동차 수출에서 약 49%를 차지한다. 현대차그룹과 한국GM 등 주요 자동차 업체들은 수출량의 대부분을 미국 시장에서 차지하고 있어, 이번 관세 부과는 직접적인 경제적 충격을 줄 것으로 보인다. 

트럼프 대통령의 이번 조치는 미국의 보호무역 정책의 일환으로, 자동차 산업에 대한 관세 강화를 목표로 한다. 이에 대해 한국 자동차 업체들은 미국 내 생산 확대 등의 대응 전략을 통해 관세의 충격을 완화할 계획이다. 예를 들어, 현대차와 기아차는 미국에 현지 생산 공장을 늘려가며, 현지 소비자 수요에 맞춘 생산 체계를 강화하고 있다. 

President Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on Imported Cars and Auto Parts

On April 3rd (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump officially implemented a 25% tariff on cars and major auto parts produced outside the United States.

This tariff directly impacts South Korean automobiles, expected to deal a significant blow to South Korea’s top export item to the U.S., automobiles.

Under the executive order signed by President Trump, a 25% tariff will be applied to cars and key components produced in South Korea, including engines, transmissions, powertrains, and electrical parts. This move could result in short-term price hikes and diminished competitiveness for South Korean automakers in the U.S. market.

South Korea’s automobile exports to the U.S. amounted to approximately $34.74 billion (about 51 trillion KRW) last year, accounting for nearly 49% of global auto exports. Major carmakers like Hyundai Motor Group and GM Korea, which rely heavily on the U.S. market, will face a direct economic impact from this tariff.

This decision is part of the Trump administration's broader protectionist policy aimed at strengthening tariffs on the automotive sector. In response, South Korean automakers are planning to mitigate the tariff's effects by increasing local production in the U.S. For instance, Hyundai and Kia are expanding their production facilities in the U.S. to better align with local consumer demand.
