인스타그램 친구 지도(Friend Map) 기능, 한국 시범 도입…실시간 위치 공유 시작

인스타그램이 4월 11일부터 한국에 ‘친구 지도(Friend Map)’ 기능을 시범 도입했다.

이 기능은 사용자가 실시간 위치를 공유하고, 위치 공유를 허용한 친구들의 현재 위치도 지도에서 확인할 수 있도록 한다.

해당 기능은 메타가 2023년 초부터 개발해온 것으로, 미국 모바일 메신저 스냅챗의 ‘스냅맵(Snap Map)’과 유사하다.

위치 공유 범위는 ‘함께 팔로우하는 사람’, ‘친한 친구’, ‘특정 계정’ 중에서 선택 가능하다.

또한, 사용자는 언제든지 위치 공유를 끌 수 있을 뿐 아니라, ‘숨기기 모드’를 통해 현재 위치만 일시적으로 숨길 수도 있다. 개인정보 보호 측면에서도 유연한 설정이 가능한 셈이다.

인스타그램 측은 “오프라인 만남을 더 쉽게 돕기 위한 기능”이라며, “사용자 안전을 최우선으로 고려해 설계했다”고 전했다.

Instagram Pilots ‘Friend Map’ Feature in Korea Starting April 11

Instagram has launched a pilot of its new Friend Map feature in South Korea starting April 11.

The feature allows users to share their real-time location and view the live locations of friends who have opted in.

Originally developed by Meta in early 2023, the Friend Map bears similarities to Snapchat’s Snap Map.

Users can choose who can see their location—mutual followers, close friends, or specific accounts.

They can also pause location sharing at any time or use “Hide Mode” to temporarily hide their current location. This provides flexible privacy controls for users.

An Instagram spokesperson said the feature is “designed to make in-person meetups easier,” emphasizing that “user safety remains a top priority.”
